APEXAUTO LAUNCHER — PRIVACY POLICY
Last Updated: September 14, 2026
1. OVERVIEW
ApexAuto Launcher ("the App," "we," "us") is an Android home-screen launcher designed for use in a vehicle. It replaces your device's default home screen with a driving-focused dashboard that can display your speed, let you organize apps and widgets, and connect to your vehicle over Bluetooth.
This policy explains what information the App accesses, why it needs each permission, and how that information is used. We designed the App to keep as much processing as possible on your device rather than on remote servers.
2. INFORMATION WE COLLECT
Location data
The App uses your device's GPS (fine location) and network-based (coarse location) location to calculate and display your current driving speed on the dashboard. Location is read continuously while the App is in the foreground and speed display is enabled, and is used only to compute speed — it is not logged as a location history, and we do not store or transmit GPS coordinates.
Vehicle diagnostic data (Bluetooth / OBD2)
If you choose to pair a Bluetooth OBD2 (ELM327-compatible) adapter, the App connects to that adapter to read real-time vehicle data such as speed and RPM directly from your car, as an alternative or supplement to GPS-based speed. This connection is opt-in: it only occurs if you enable it and select a paired device in Vehicle Settings. Vehicle diagnostic data is used only to power the on-screen dashboard and is not stored beyond the current session or transmitted off your device.
Installed application information
As a launcher, the App needs to know which apps are installed on your device in order to display them in the app drawer, home screen, folders, and search. This includes app names, icons, and package identifiers. This information is used solely to build the launcher interface on your device and is not transmitted to us or any third party.
Network and Wi-Fi state
The App checks network and Wi-Fi connection status (e.g., whether you are online) to support features that depend on connectivity, such as loading widgets or search results. We do not collect network credentials, browsing activity, or traffic content.
Media notification information
If enabled, the App can read currently playing media information (such as track title and playback state) from notifications, so it can display media controls without you leaving the launcher. This access is limited to media playback notifications and is used only for on-device display.
Information we do NOT collect
- We do not collect your name, email address, or other account/contact information, since the App does not require an account.
- We do not collect precise location history, trip logs, or driving behavior profiles.
- We do not access the content of your messages, calls, contacts, photos, or files.
- We do not sell personal information.
3. PERMISSIONS EXPLAINED
Permission: ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION
Purpose: Precise GPS location, used to calculate and display driving speed.
Permission: ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION
Purpose: Approximate location as a fallback source for speed calculation.
Permission: QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES
Purpose: Required for the App to function as a launcher — lists installed apps for the home screen, app drawer, folders, and search.
Permission: ACCESS_WIFI_STATE
Purpose: Checks Wi-Fi connectivity status for connectivity-dependent features.
Permission: ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE
Purpose: Checks general network connectivity status.
Permission: BLUETOOTH / BLUETOOTH_ADMIN (Android 11 and below)
Purpose: Legacy Bluetooth permissions used to discover and connect to a paired OBD2 adapter on older Android versions.
Permission: BLUETOOTH_CONNECT
Purpose: Connects to your already-paired Bluetooth OBD2 adapter to read vehicle speed and RPM.
Granting a permission is always optional where Android allows it; declining a permission may disable the related feature (for example, declining location will disable GPS-based speed) without affecting the rest of the App.
4. HOW WE USE INFORMATION
We use the information described above only to:
- Display your driving speed on the dashboard;
- Populate the home screen, app drawer, folders, and search with your installed apps;
- Connect to and read data from an OBD2 adapter you have chosen to pair;
- Show connectivity status and media playback controls;
- Maintain and troubleshoot the App's core functionality.
We do not use this information for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to operating the App's features.
5. DATA STORAGE & RETENTION
The App is designed to process location, vehicle, and app-list data locally on your device in order to render the dashboard, rather than uploading it to remote servers. Settings and preferences you configure (such as theme, layout, and folder setup) are stored locally on your device. We do not currently operate a backend server that stores your personal data.
[If a future version adds cloud sync, analytics, or crash reporting, update this section to name the service used, what data it receives, and its retention period.]
6. DATA SHARING & DISCLOSURE
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may disclose information only where required to:
- Comply with applicable law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request;
- Enforce our terms and protect the rights, property, or safety of our users or others;
- Investigate fraud or security issues.
7. YOUR CHOICES & CONTROLS
- Location: You can disable location access at any time in your device's Settings > Apps > ApexAuto Launcher > Permissions. GPS-based speed will stop working until re-enabled.
- Bluetooth / OBD2: OBD2 connectivity is off by default and only activates once you select a device in Vehicle Settings. You can disconnect or forget the device at any time.
- Media notifications: You can revoke notification access in your device's notification-access settings.
- Uninstalling: Uninstalling the App removes locally stored settings from your device.
8. SECURITY
We take reasonable technical measures to protect information processed by the App. However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your region), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with information, please contact us so we can address it.
10. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the App's features or legal requirements. We will update the "Last updated" date above when we do. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
